Shiatsu Therapy

How does Shiatsu work?

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork based upon the Eastern energetic view of the world. It uses concepts such as "ki" (vital energy), "jing" (essence), "shen" (spirit), as well as "meridians" (energetic pathways), and "tsubo" (acupressure points) in its understanding of the body.

Shiatsu works by bringing the Yin and Yang of the body in to balance. The shiatsu practitioner works to nourish areas of "kyo" (softness / deficiency) and soften the "jitsu" (hard / excess), promoting harmony in order to improve physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
What does Shiatsu involve?

Shiatsu literally means 'finger-pressure', and the physical application of shiatsu may take this form but usually will also include pressure applied with the thumbs, palms, elbows, or even knees or feet to various parts of the clients' body.

Other techniques more gentle techniques such as holding, gentle rocking, and stroking are also used. A thorough treatment involves aspects of both stillness and activity
